Breaking Ground on Buildings 158 and 210 at the West LA VA
Century was proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of two more buildings at the West LA VA North Campus on Friday, May 31: Building 158, a Century development that will provide 49 supportive homes for Veterans and Building 210, a U.S.VETS development that will offer 38 supportive homes primarily serving female Veterans and their families. Along with our partners in The Veterans Collective, we have passed the halfway mark in creating 1,200+ homes for Veterans.
We are grateful to all of the advocates, dignitaries, and supporters who joined us, including our speakers, U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman (who secured $1.5 million in federal funds to support our efforts); U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff; State Treasurer Fiona Ma; California Department of Housing & Community Development Director Gustavo Velasquez; Los Angeles County Development Authority Executive Director Emilio Salas ; and others. Building 207 resident Babs Ludikhuize also shared her remarkable journey with the attendees. Together, we are upholding the promise of 1887 when this land was deeded to the Pacific Branch of the Old Soldiers’ Home (predecessor to the modern-day VA).
