Century Developments Earn Major Awards for Veterans Housing

In recent months, Century developments serving veterans have received major awards recognizing excellence in affordable housing development, historic rehabilitation, and community revitalization.
West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Campus
Century is part of The Veterans Collective—alongside Thomas Safran & Associates and U.S. VETS—which is helping create the nation’s largest supportive housing community for veterans at the West LA VA.
Building 404 won the Silver Award for Affordable Housing Project of the Year at the 2026 Commercial Real Estate Awards from the Los Angeles Business Journal. The development transformed a former parking lot into 73 permanent supportive homes for veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Learn more about Building 404.
Century’s Building 404 shared the Silver Award honor with Building 701, a Thomas Safran & Associates development also created through The Veterans Collective, providing an additional 120 permanent supportive homes for veterans.
Buildings 156 and 157 received a 2026 Preservation Design Award in Rehabilitation from the California Preservation Foundation for restoring and adapting two long-vacant Mission Revival-style buildings, where the VA operated a tuberculosis ward in the 1920s. The adaptive reuse converted these former medical buildings into 112 permanent supportive homes for veterans, while preserving key architectural details and honoring their historic character.
“We’re honored to see these developments recognized because they represent years of collaboration and a shared commitment to veterans,” said Oscar Alvarado, Senior Vice President, Century Affordable Development, Inc. “Whether restoring historic buildings or transforming underutilized land into housing, this work helps ensure the West LA VA campus and communities like Century Villages at Cabrillo continue to serve veterans for generations to come.”
Century Villages at Cabrillo
In addition, The Cove at Century Villages at Cabrillo received the 2026 Outstanding Urban or Land Development Project Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Region 9, which encompasses California. Special recognition goes to Ardurra, the civil engineering firm on The Cove project, for its contributions to the development. The Cove includes nearly 90 permanent supportive and affordable homes for formerly unhoused veterans and is part of the broader Century Villages at Cabrillo community in Long Beach—a nationally recognized supportive housing campus centered on housing, wellness, and supportive services.
