Century Earns SCANPH’s Rehab Development of the Year Award

Century’s work to adapt historic buildings at the West Los Angeles VA campus into supportive housing for veterans has earned recognition from the Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing (SCANPH). Buildings 156, 157, and 158 were selected as Rehabilitation Development of the Year at SCANPH’s 2026 Homes Within Reach Awards.
The award highlights the role rehabilitation can play in creating affordable homes while preserving a community’s history. Developed by Century Affordable Development, Inc., these projects convert historic campus buildings into more than 160 supportive homes for veterans.
Buildings 156 and 157 once housed a VA tuberculosis ward in the 1920s. Their rehabilitation preserved historic architectural details while adapting former medical spaces for permanent supportive housing. Building 158 extends Century’s efforts to create supportive homes through the reuse of existing campus buildings.
This work is part of a broader collaboration through The Veterans Collective, which brings together Century, Thomas Safran & Associates, and U.S.VETS to develop supportive housing at the West LA VA campus. It reflects a shared commitment to expanding housing opportunities for veterans who have experienced homelessness.
We are grateful to SCANPH for this recognition and to the development partners, architects, construction teams, funders, and other collaborators whose contributions made these projects possible. The award is an opportunity to celebrate their work and the continued role of the campus in serving veterans.
